Can you spare a kidney?

Welcome graphic

Hi, I'm a 46 year-old man from Norwich, N.Y. I presently live in Chapel Hill, N.C. I have Polycystic Kidney Disease, and I'm now to the point where I'm about to start dialysis. My father has the same disease and has received a kidney from my brother. They're both doing great.

There is no one else in my family who can donate to me. I never thought I'd need to be on a waiting list. I was sure that someone I knew would be able to donate, but none of my friends or family members are a proper match.  I've been on a waiting list for two years, and the average wait time for someone of my blood type is 3-6 years. My blood type is O-.  I can receive from either a O+ or O- person.

Now, like so many other people, I need help. If you can help me, I would be eternally and internally grateful. If you can't help me, see if you're a match with another person in need.

Thanks!
Mike Handy

Campaign Mission

Links For Life Campaign aims to promote organ donation by:

  • showing the real people, stories and faces of those desperately in need of a life saving organ transplants because they are the ones directly affected by the tremendous shortage of donations.

  • providing useful information, appropriate links and other convenient resources.

  • networking with other people and organizations who share the common goal of promoting organ donation.

  • continually searching for positive and effective ways to make
organ donation a main stream topic - rather than an afterthought.

  • providing a community for visitors and participants to voice their needs, concerns, questions and opinions for others to consider.

All in the hopes of:

  • motivating the masses into giving the
    greatest gift of all... Life.
  • making the Transplant Waiting List a distant
memory - rather than distantly remembering
those who were lost because it ever existed.
